Bartle Hall was constructed in the 1930s. Over the years, several additions were made to the facility to expand the convention/conference resources for the complex, with some of the additions completed as almost independent parts. As the work was designed by different people, no two areas provided the same amenities to user groups. In late 2002, the city passed a bod aimed at renovation of aspects of the existing facilities, the addition of new meeting rooms and a new ballroom capable of hosting Las Vegas style entertainment. The project has since broken into two parts. One encompasses the renovations, including a redesign of speciality lighting resources in the meeting and exhibit halls. To serve events already booked into the facility, the renovations and upgrads are allowed to proceed ahead and independently of the additions.
